RONDO celebrates its 75th anniversary this year and an extraordinary success story. Over the years, the small workshop has grown into a world-leading manufacturer of bakery machines.

RONDO is still headquartered at the same address in Burgdorf as it was 75 years ago. Over the years, however, the small two-man workshop has grown into a world-leading manufacturer of bakery machines for artisanal and industrial production – with subsidiaries and sales offices in ten countries. RONDO currently employs around 450 people worldwide.

RONDO will celebrate its 75th birthday with a major two-day event on 23 and 24 June that all employees around the world are invited to attend. But the residents of Burgdorf also have something to look forward to: To celebrate, RONDO will be offering the people of Burgdorf croissant vouchers that can be redeemed at any Burgdorf bakery.

The bakery machine pioneer

The company was founded in spring 1948 by machine designer Gustav A. Seewer under the name “Konstruktions-Werkstätte Burgdorf”. Five years later, Seewer filed a patent for his first automatic dough rolling machine “Rondo” – the first of many pioneering achievements for the bakery industry. In 1987, for example, the company launched the Compas, the world’s first electronic dough sheeter. This revolutionised the market and, more importantly, the daily work of thousands of bakery employees.

Focus on industrial plants

Another important milestone in the history of RONDO was the takeover of the Italian company Doge in 2000. This saw RONDO enter the market for industrial bakery machines. Until then, RONDO had focused on machines for artisanal bakeries. RONDO CEO, Peter Studer, now believes that the industrial sector offers the greatest potential for the future: “We hope that the coming chapters in the company’s journey will centre around growth in the industrial plant sector. For our developments, this means even greater automation, digitalisation and closeness to our customers. I am confident that we can achieve this with our highly qualified employees.”
